Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for choosing Food Bank of Iowa! Volunteers make it possible for us to support 55 Iowa counties through partnership with 625 agencies. These agencies are food pantries, homeless shelters, school pantries, BackPack programs, and more. People like you make it possible for us to say yes to donations in all shapes and sizes. You as an individual, your family, or your group can sign up for a shift to make a difference today. 

LOOKING FOR A GROUP OR TEAM EXPERIENCE? Groups of five or more should contact volunteer@foodbankiowa.org to ensure they get the reservations they need together. 

Qualifications:

  • Able to stand, move, bend and lift in a warehouse environment
  • Able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds
  • Able to read printed dates on packaging
  • Able to safely use box cutter, packing tape dispenser, and other packing tools as needed.

Age Requirement:  For safety reasons, all volunteers in the warehouse must be 10 or older. and children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult guardian. Events outside of the warehouse can accommodate children of all ages. Please check event descriptions.

Dress Code:  Closed-toe shoes are required in the warehouse.  Also, please dress comfortably and in layers.  The temperature in the warehouse can vary.


COVID-19 VOLUNTEER SAFETY:

If you oranyone in your household has experienced the following in the past 72 hours weask that you please go home to keep staff and volunteers safe: Runny nose,Sinus congestion, Sore throat, Cough, Headache and/or Bodyaches, Nausea and/or Vomiting, Diarrhea, Fever and/or Chills

 

SOCIALDISTANCING REQUIREMENTS DURING YOUR SHIFT:

·       Hands must be washed before your volunteershift

·       A face covering must be worn while you areinside the Food Bank of Iowa (a bandana, scarf or a face mask)

·       Personal Items must be kept in the lockers toavoid contamination of hands (example: touching phone to answer call orgrabbing keys to open a box)

·       Please remain 6 feet apart at all times if youcome from separate households
