West Des Moines Leadership Academy - Hunger Games

West Des Moines Leadership Academy - Hunger Games

About This Campaign

The West Des Moines Leadership Academy Class of 2020 is excited to host the West Des Moines Hunger Games benefitting Food Bank of Iowa’s BackPack and School Pantry Programs. We cordially invite you to be a sponsor of this event and hope you will consider the opportunity to contribute.

Nutrition is one of three major factors in a child’s development. Research shows it is linked with academic performance. Unfortunately, about 175,000 Iowa adults and children struggle with hunger.

The Food Bank of Iowa’s mission is to help those in need here in our own communities. The BackPack Program provides elementary-age children in need, with a sack of nutritionally balanced foods every Friday during the school year to help them eat through the weekend. The School Pantry Program is available for families of school age children because where there is a child in need there is also a family in need. Both programs are currently provided in our West Des Moines schools and the need is greater than what is currently being provided.

With the help of your sponsorship and attendance, the special evening will incorporate food-inspired minute to win it games, live music, and hors d’oeuvres as we raise funds to fill backpacks and pantries with meals and opportunities for our future leaders.

Thank you for your support and generosity. We look forward to making an impact with your help!

Campaign to Support Food Bank of Iowa

**In light of COVID-19 (coronavirus), Food Bank of Iowa operations are continuing uninterrupted as the need grows.  Our top priority remains to ensure that our most vulnerable neighbors have safe access to the nutrition and resources they need. As we pivot toward more mobile food distributions to meet increasing need, fill in for services lost through school partners, and compensate for stressed pantry distributions; our food and material costs are quickly mounting.

You can support Food Bank of Iowa's COVID-19 relief efforts by designating your gift to "COVID-19 Relief" in donation check-out.

At the Food Bank of Iowa, we’re dedicated to ending hunger in Iowa—for each one of the 175,000 children, families, and seniors we serve. With your help, we can.

95.9 cents of every dollar donated to Food Bank of Iowa supports our food distribution programs. By keeping administrative services expenses (1.1%) and fundraising expenses (3%) low, we can provide 4 meals for every dollar contributed to Food Bank of Iowa.

Together, we can solve hunger.
